Modern Twist to a traditional kitchen

Introduction

Our clients specification was not lengthy, appliances, timeline of the extension was shared and of course what was important to her in terms of design. After exploring numerous companies which non offered her a design which she fell in love with, upon gaining an on-site meeting which allowed the designer to work out exactly the layout required.

How did we tackle the specification?

The first design choice after meeting was the layout , we made efficient use of space by installing floor to ceiling storage across the garden view wall allowing a spectacular view not to be tarnished, allowing for plenty of storage for the homeowner without cluttering the space and making it feel smaller. Part of the challenge was that our clients could stand in the kitchen and cook while still being able to look out at the view, which brings its own opportunities and expectations, we needed to maximise space where possible while still providing ample space for entertaining. Tackling this by keeping the rest of the kitchen minimal with worktop space in the form of an island rather than creating a closed L shaped lower cabinets allowing the homeowner to cook and prepare food while talking to guests at the table. Perfect for cooking and socialising with abundance of storage.

Kitchen storage solutions

Storage needed to be well thought out for the project due to the space which was allocated, introducing a number of different storage solutions which enabled maximum efficiency. From internal drawers solving the pantry issue, pull out cargo for cooking supplies items and drawers for full depth utilization. The variation allows functionality and aesthetics to intertwine, curating easy movement and space around the kitchen area.

Kitchen with wooden breakfast table

To create the timeless design, we paired the neutral walls with a moody, blue and warm white kitchen cabinetry to add a contemporary edge while also creating a statement traditional twist. We then contrasted this with organic elements in the form of wood on the breakfast table, paired supports and wine display.

Final choice of flooring and bottle storage shape really allowed the design to channel the contemporary visual. Flooring being carefully chosen to match the moody blue (island) and tall cabinets shade allowing a synchronized flow of colours.

Our client possessed a lovely free standing cabinet which breaks up the space with its vibrant colour and matching shade to the golden handles. Whereas the other cabinet was relocated to another room and an additional worktop space was created, tucked away in the corner allowing for a tea and coffee station with the lost display area of open shelving and matching supports.

How did our renders compare to the installed furniture?

Our renders are quite accurate to what the design will be once installed, the colour shades are very life-like, the positioning of the cabinets. As we do not sell accessories we were happy to see the result of the flooring as this really elevated the contemporary finish to the space. Light and dark within the pattern brought both moody and airy elevating the colours chosen.
